Pelvis Related Pain

The Pelvis

A common issue in women, Sacroiliac (SI) joint pain is often due to hypermobility of the SI joint or to damage of the ligament structure of the joint. Women are more prone to this issue since their joint is more mobile than a man's since they are designed for childbirth. The pelvis of women is made to literally pull apart so the child can force its way through the birth canal. Even in women who never gave birth, this joint is more fragile than a man's. We have also seen where the pain may be from the tissue overlying the joint since many of the back muscles insert at the upper portion of the joint itself. The treatment for this issue includes injections, nerve destruction of the joint and even fusion.
