Spinal Anatomy

Spinal Anatomy

This page includes information on the anatomy of the human spine. The human spine is made for motion and protection. It houses the spinal cord and thus protects the major nerves of the body. It is very flexible but this mobility also leads to possible injury and especially in humans who walk upright there is a tendency for disc herniation which are much less common in other mammals. Also, humans live longer than most other mammals and thus succumb to the problems associated with the degeneration of aging.
