The facet joints are the joints of the spine. They run up and own the entire spine and offer mobility to the spine. The Facet joints can cause pain in any region of the spine but usually the lumbar spine followed by the cervical spine are affected. Injections of the nerves adjacent to the facet joint numbs the joint and if the joint is the cause of the pain then when these little nerves are anesthetized, then the pain will go away. If there is good relief with the injections then procedures such as radiofrequeny lesioning or ablation can be done to offer longer term relief. These radiofrequency procedures utilize electrical energy to create heat to burn the nerves and provide relief for usually up to a year.
